Creme Brulee vs. Tootsie Pops

Some people think I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to my personal Bible study. When I read the Bible, nothing but the King James Version will do for me. In fact, I'm so convinced it's vital we get as close to the original text as possible, I bought a first-edition, 1890, Strong's Concordance from eBay so I could study with as few hands between me and it as possible.

Along with the importance of adhering to the original text, there are certain truths, certain promises of God, so rich and elegant that only the language of the King James Bible can do them justice.

Here's an example of one of my favorite scripture verses of all time:

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16, KJV)

Let us therefore come.

That's an invitation with authority. Do it. Join us. Let's go. Yes, you too!

Boldly.

There's power in that word. We aren't timidly knocking on a door hoping the man behind the curtain will let us in. We're mighty in our approach and know we will not be turned away.

Unto to the throne of grace.

We're assured entry into the presence of God. There's not a king on earth who would entertain most of us, yet with this promise in the King James Bible, we can enter boldly and stand before the throne of Almighty God. What a promise. What an invitation.

That we may obtain mercy and find grace in time of need.

Wow. It's about us. We go before the King for our benefit. He welcomes us into His presence and bestows mercy and grace on us–flaws and all–to meet our needs. What a thought.

Isn't it liberating to know that the mighty God of Israel is waiting for our presence, anxious to meet our needs? And, better still, that we need not approach the throne timidly, fearful of a vengeful ruler?

So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help. (Hebrews 4:16, The Message)

Umright. It's like finishing off a decadent meal in a five-star restaurant with a Tootsie Pop for dessert. Me? I'm going for the Crme Brulee.
